harry potter: going green.

even harry potter is going green.

scholastic announced the printing of the seventh and final book in the series of harry potter, harry potter and the deathly hallows, will be printed on 30% post consumer waste fiber. additionally, 2/3 of the paper will be fsc (forest stewardship council) certified.

Here's a TreeHugger article about the new HP book.
(I especially like the last sentence: "borrowing a copy from the library or a friend probably is the most eco-friendly way to read this book.")

that article is actually referring to book 6 in the potter series. many groups were up in arms over the size of the book and the lack of recycled efforts it made. scholastic has since changed their ways for book 7.

i agree though with the final statement: sharing or borrowing the book from any source is definitely the most eco-friendly way to read and enjoy the book.

because book 7 was printed on post-consumer fiber, it has actually saved nearly 200,000 trees and avoided almost 8,700 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
